The public space is interesting to me because it’s the space we move in. I get inspiration from how people relate to each other, and I see public space as an unconscious choreography. The public space is also a picture of how society changes, it describes the time we live in.
In my videos I don’t edit the material for example, they work as perfomative video, where the camera becomes like a filter of reality. Though it’s always important for me that it works visually. This work has been heavily treated, and for this I have been inspired by a range of contemporary artists, along with some animations I produced two years ago.
The soundtracks to these pieces are to do with the psychological or psychic presence that I perceive the space embodies. Within those frameworks, I like to record or amplify sounds that might otherwise go unnoticed. As a sound artist my interest is in field recordings, which is recording the sounds I find in the world.
You may not agree, but I think a lot of sounds you just hear in the world are very beautiful or very interesting; but we usually don’t notice them because we are busy doing things.
I hope you find them enjoyable and I look forward to hearing your comments.
