Over the last three years I have been working with Poole museum archives and with archives at Devon Records Office. Through this working with archival material has become a bit of an obsession within my artistic practice. It is a passion, a commitment. As my friend Luís Antero, said; “tradition is like a huge file and a stimulating point of departure for exploration and work. One can use it to build entirely new things.”
My field recordings of sounds from Burton Bradstock beach have been played on kuow.org 94.9fm radio program Sounds of the Summer.
This framework:afield documents the creative collaboration between Devon Arts in School, South Dartmoor Community College, 271 Year 8 students and Joe Stevens, as part of The School Looks Around. The audio features a Dartmoor soundscape with the students description of the landscape, in a combination of spoken word and background sounds.
